   2:30 - 3:30 pm Human Trafficking: A Michigan Reality


Awareness of Human Trafficking needs to be brought to the attention of physicians and other health professionals as it relates to their potential contact with victims. It is time to explore the concepts in human trafficking of victim centered, trauma informed and evidence based information as it relates to health care.

Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force

Jane P. White is the Executive Director and Founder of the Michigan Human Trafficking Task Force, a non-profit organization founded originally in 2006 through the School of Criminal Justice at Michigan State University. She is a strong advocate of victim-centered, trauma informed, and evidence-based practices. 

She is a graduate of Michigan State University with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science Pre-Law and a Masters’ degree in Administration of Higher Education.

As an Associate Director for MGMA Government Affairs, Drew serves as a member liaison to inform membership of the federal rules and regulations impacting medical group practices around the country. He works closely with MGMA state affiliate chapters to organize grassroots efforts and is a frequent speaker at state and national meetings.  

Drew holds a Master of Public Administration with a Healthcare Administration focus and a bachelor’s degree in Political Science, both from Western Michigan University.

Jason Wasserman, PhD
Oakland University

Jason Adam Wasserman is currently Associate Professor of Biomedical Science at Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine, where he also holds a secondary appointment in Pediatrics. His work focuses integrating social science into clinical medicine, as well as issues of health and homelessness.  He has published numerous articles in journals such as Social Science and Medicine, Hastings Center Report, American Journal of Bioethics, and JAMA-Pediatrics.  His recent book Social and Behavioral Science for Health Professionals was published in 2017 by Rowman and Littlefield. He also wrote At Home on the Street:  People, Poverty, and a Hidden Culture of Homelessness (2010), and directed the documentary film American Refugees:  Homelessness in Four Movements (2011).

Individuals making their own reservations by telephone should do so by calling 231-946-5000 and asking for Ml MGMA. Overnight rates are 129.95/ night + 11% taxes. These rates apply to single or double occupancy and include lodging only. A $10 per person per night fee will be applicable for triple and quad occupancy.
